Slayer taps Exodus Gary Holt to replace Jeff Hanneman on upcoming tour.

Slayer has chosen a legend to replace a legend. Gary Holt, leader of original Bay Area Thrash band Exodus has been selected by the band to replace Jeff Hanneman who is sitting out the band's upcoming Soundwave Festival tour of Australia. As the founder and mainstay of Exodus, Holt has penned some of the most endearing albums in thrash metal and makes a strong case for his band to be on equal footing with any of the so called Big Four. Last years sensational modern thrash opus Exhibit B: The Human Condition (Nuclear Blast) topped many year end lists.

As previously reported Hanneman was hospitalized in late January when he underwent emergency surgery for a serious infection in his right arm. The diagnosis was necrotizing faciitis, more commonly known as flesh-eating bacteria syndrome. Although he is expected to make a full recovery there is no timetable when he can return to the stage.
