System Of A Down bassist Shavo posted on his official twitter that the band rehearsed for the first time in over 5 years. The band currently has a few festival shows lined up outside of the US. Many fans are wanting to know if the band will perform in the US this summer.
The answer is probably 'Yes'. I would think a suprise show at a club is in order before the festivals begin. It would be a good idea to knock of the rust so to speak. I really believe the band will play a few small shows in the US this year. As for a full blown US tour I would advise you to not to get your hopes up.
While the band was rumored for Mayhem Fest they will not play this year. Next year? A good possibility they will be asked to play. A come back tour would be nice but most artists usually do this after they have released an album of new material.
That leaves us with 3 options for SOAD in my opinion.
Option 1 is the Uproar tour. No one has really given any consideration to SoaD being on this tour. It would make sense and cents. The only problem is that Uproar hits smaller markets when compared to Mayhem Fest. SoaD is an immensely popular act who has millions of fans that would drive several hundreds of miles to see them. A full scale tour would see SoaD playing major cities first.
Option 2 would be to not tour the US at all until new material is ready near the summer of 2012. Fans would hate the wait but it makes sense to hold off until the band has a new album to promote.
Option 3 would be Ozzfest. The band had close ties with the Ozzfest camp. Ozzfest 98 & 99 helped break the band from unknown to MTV sensation in a few short years. Ozzfest was only 6 dates last year and I expect this year to be no different. That would a good tour for
SoaD to announce to the world that they are back. It would also give Ozzfest a good momentum boost which they haven't had since 2006... when SoaD last headlined the festival.
That is if there is an Ozzfest 2011. With BLS touring for the last time this year in May, I have to wonder if there will be an Ozzfest this year. One would have to think that BLS would be onboard if it was going to happen.
