According to the Gauntlet website Livia, legendary metal singer King Diamond's wife has issued an update on his recent state of health. He had a triple bypass operation last November.
“Hi Everyone,
Some of you have been asking for an update on King's health, so I thought I'll write what's been going on.
King has just has just finished his cardiac rehabilitation program this past Friday, and graduated with flying colors. Thanks to the wonderful people at the rehab center, his exercise regimen helped him gain a lot of muscle, and start on the road of building up good endurance. We will start regular exercises now to get the endurance up to nice levels. The examinations by his heart surgeon and cardiologist revealed that his health is steadily improving, and they all expect him to feel better than ever. 15 years younger than he really is.”
She went on to add that plans are in the works for a new DVD and that King is not retiring from music anytime soon. The plan is for him to return to recording and performing as soon as possible
Previous to his bypass surgery King had battled for a few years with back problems and surgeries, although he was plotting a comeback for 2011. He had performed sparingly the last few years but did join Metallica onstage at Ozzfest 2008 for a run through of their “Merciful Fate” medley.
As part of the band Merciful Fate as well as his vaunted solo career he has spent over twenty-five years in metal putting out classic albums like Melissa, Abigail and Them.
The Vulgar Display of Blog team wishes the King a continued and robust recovery. We hope to see him on stage before too long.
