Iced Earth frontman announces his retirement from the band.

Longtime Iced Earth frontman Matt Barlow has officially retired from the band. Barlow wasn't the first vocalist in the band but performed on classic albums in the 1990's like Burnt Offerings and The Dark Saga, Something Wicked This Way Comes. Known for his magnificent range, epic stage presence and power metal stylings, Barlow was a standout vocalist in metal during the rise of an era when true singing was coming back to the forefront. Barlow released a message to the fans:

“Brothers and sisters”

"Let me begin by saying how much of an honor it has been to share my time in Iced earth wit Jon and the guys...and with all of you! Since my return to the band in 2007, it has truly been extraordinary. I have had the opportunity to travel the world and see old friends and meet new ones. Though we had originally thought that the Iced Earth touring schedule would be very limited, we were able to play our fair share of concerts."

Barlow went on to say that his reasons for stepping away are the same as the last time he stepped down from the band in 2003, to spend time with his family.

Iced Earth is in the process of writing and recording a new album. Leader Jon Schaffer has stated he already has “a few guys in mind” for the lead vocalist job.
