Trivium to release new album In Waves August. 9th, tour.

Trivium exploded onto the global metal scene with their Roadrunner Records debut album Ascendency (2005) which was certified Gold in the UK (and earned them the 2005 Best New International Artist honors in Kerrang!). Extremely young at the time and with songwriting and musicianship far beyond their years, the band toured with giants of the metal world, including Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Metallica, Heaven & Hell and many more. Over the course of those years and albums - including 2006's The Crusade, and 2008's Shogun– the band honed their skills even further, while sharpening their vision for the band and its music. In the words of vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy, this new album is the culmination: "In Waves to us… is Trivium. In Waves is the music, the artwork, the videos and the live show; they are all part of an interconnected whole. There's no question about it, in our eyes, that this is the most complete project we’ve ever done. We think we’ve finally made the record that we’ve always strived to make."

While the tracks boast the guitar-driven edge that fans have come to love and expect from the band – pushing some of the tracks even further in their heaviness and aggression - the visual and lyrical world that “In Waves” inhabits is overall a fantastic leap forward for the band. Inspired as much by contemporary film and visual art as by the band’s love of heavy music, all of the imagery – including album art, videos, stage sets and web properties - take Trivium into territory that few bands have the confidence, or vision, to visit. The visuals create the special world of In Waves where the entire album package will take the listener on a journey where the destination may not have even been decided yet, much less known. It's a wide, open road and one littered with darkness and other curiosities. The visual project was collaborative effort between the band and a team of select artists. The band and their artists created a new, unique and wholly original set of visuals that are like a graphic novel come to life.

The video for "In Waves" will premiere this Friday at altpress.com in the US and on NME.com in the UK. The band appears but does not perform in the clip.

There is a unifying theme to In Waves, but it's not a concept album by any means. Heafy continued, "The album is not a concept record, but there is a certain theme to all of the visuals and sonically and visually it all ties together. We are very proud of what we’ve accomplished with In Waves and we are excited to share it with everyone.”

Machine Head releases advanced mix of “Locust”

MACHINE HEAD's brand new track "Locust" can be streamed in the YouTubeclip below (courtesy of Roadrunner Records).

[Note: This version of the song was mixed by Juan Urteaga (EXODUS,SADUS, TESTAMENT, NIGHT RANGER, VICIOUS RUMORS, HEATHEN,VILE, CATTLE DECAPITATION). The final mix will be handled by longtime MACHINE HEAD producer Colin Richardson (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE,SLIPKNOT, FEAR FACTORY,TRIVIUM).]

"Locust" lyrics:

Sweet caress
Grazes my skin
It's loveless
These hooks sink in
Behind an angel's disguise
An insect preys
Mandibles cut like a knife
A reckoning

Forming clouds
Their shadow shrouds
Louder the tattered wings they sound
Descending down

Down they come
The swarm of locusts
Skies above
Converge to choke us
Feast of souls
Consume the harvest
Young and old
Suffer unto the locust

Surrender
These veins are bled
Devoured
Nothing sacred
Strings pull the marionettes
See how they dance
Upon the winds that beget
Our pestilence

Forming clouds
Their shadow shrouds
Louder the tattered wings they sound
Descending down

Down they come
The swarm of locusts
Skies above
Converge to choke us
Feast of souls
Consume the harvest
Young and old
Suffer unto the locust

Bleeding from my eyes
This plague is sent to erase us
Bleeding from inside
These vermin can't infiltrate us

Faith appears and holds a candle
Hark the angels sing

Forming clouds
Their shadow shrouds
Louder the tattered wings they sound

Tear the veil
The lies derail
Purity ever will prevail

Trumpets sound
The shattered crown
Halos of truth now they surround
The charade comes down

Down they come
The swarm of locusts
Skies above
Converge to choke us
Feast of souls
Consume the harvest
Young and old
Suffer unto the locust [End of lyrics]

The band, which released the back-to-back, modern classics, 2004's"Through the Ashes Of Empires" and 2007's "The Blackening", is aiming to unleash its third masterwork in a row on September 27 via longtime label Roadrunner Records. The as-yet untitled new album is being recorded at JingleTown Studios in Oakland, with frontman Robb Flynn producing, and it is sure to level anything and everything that happens upon its path.

MACHINE HEAD will prepare for the release of their new album by appearing on the main stage of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for key dates, while headlining the Extreme Stage for others, this summer, which kicks off this July. This is the band's second tour of duty on Mayhem, as they appeared on the festival during its inaugural run in 2008.

An advance mix of "Locust" will be on sale at iTunes on June 14 and will be included on an iTunes Mayhem digital sampler. Download cards for the digital sampler will be distributed at every date of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival so fans can redeem the song after being summarily kicked in the face by MACHINE HEAD's always devastating live show.

"We've been working on the record for a few weeks now, and when the opportunity to be a part of the free Mayhem sampler came up, we did not want to pass up the chance," said MACHINE HEAD vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn. "We're so pumped for our fans to hear the new music that we're so proud of."

Flynn went a little deeper about the meaning of the song, saying, "'Locust' is a metaphor. Locusts fly in a swarm, but they can't control which direction they fly; they float on the wind, they land, cause massive destruction, and then float away on the wind to leave you in the aftermath. The song is a metaphor for a type of person that sometimes comes into your life and has a similar effect."

Musically, the song is the essence of what MACHINE HEAD have been doing for nearly two decades. "It feels like the culmination of what we've been doing for the last 17 years: power grooves, patented MACHINE HEAD harmonics, crushing guitars and dark melodies, but taken to a new level,"Flynn said. "It's a natural progression from 'The Blackening', but different than anything on that record. In the past, when we debuted a new song, it was usually the fastest, thrashiest tune. This time we wanted to go with something just straight-up heavy."

The song is eight minutes in length, which is not unfamiliar territory for the band. Flynn even joked, "We still can't seem to write a damn song under six minutes. But MACHINE HEAD aren't writing music for the radio or MTV. This is for us. This is for the metalhead who let's music take him on a journey. This for the metalhead for whom music is the only thing that matters, to whom music is a savior. The music fan who's going to study every detail of the artwork, go online and find the lyrics and memorize every word, and let it take them away from their fucked up life for a while. It's for the music freak, who maybe just wants to get hammered, air-guitar and sing at the top of his lungs, and act like an friggin' idiot while starting a moshpit in their living room with reckless abandon. Because that's who wrote this song, and that is the only people we care about connecting with."

Flynn finished, "We know you'll be as excited about it as we are, so Head Cases, on June 14, check out 'Locust'."

"Locust" is a true metal anthem from these metal torchbearers, and it's erected upon the band's signature, crunchy guitar tone, pummeling riffage, a thunderstorm of percussion and Flynn's militaristic barks. "Locust" is one of those cathartic, "gets the red out" songs that will incite moshpits across the globe and cause the listener to be purged of all their anger (and exhausted from rocking the hell out) once the last note fades out.

Megadeth nears completion on new album.

According to a post on Blabbermouth.net MEGADETH has resumed recording its new album at mainman DaveMustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California after the sessions were briefly "halted" when producer Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis; DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD, STAIND) was "suddenly struck ill." According to Mustaine, Day 29 in the studio was spent working on the arrangements of the 12th and final song that will appear on the CD, with overdubs slated to begin next week.

The drum tracking for the CD — which is tentatively due this fall via Roadrunner Records — began earlier this month, with the entire recording process expected to be completed by the time the group hits the road this summer as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with DISTURBED and GODSMACK.

Speaking to U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine, Mustaine stated about the band's upcoming album, "This is our 13th studio record, and we've already had a bunch of weird things happen. Car problems, stuff disappearing, a guy who worked for me that was the most white-laced guy you could imagine falling out on drugs and disappearing...but this one's got me excited!"

MEGADETH's platinum-certified 1986 masterpiece, "Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?", has been digitally remastered for the first time and expanded for a special 25th-anniversary release in multiple configurations. It will be released July 12 by Capitol/EMI.

All of the versions, including a 2CD lift-top box, digital album and a deluxe 5Disc+3LP box set, contain a previously unreleased 1987 concert from the band's first world tour and new liner notes written by Mustaine and METALLICA's Lars Ulrich.

Metallica's Lars Ulrich contributes to Megadeth Peace Sells remaster

Megadeth's breakthrough album Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, has been digitally remastered for the first time and expanded for a commemorative 25th Anniversary release in multiple configurations on July 12 by Capitol/EMI.
All of the versions, including a 2CD lift-top box, digital album, and a deluxe 5Disc+3LP box set, include a previously unreleased 1987 concert from the band's first world tour and new liner notes written by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and Metallica's Lars Ulrich.

The deluxe box set also includes previously unreleased and rare mixes of the album's tracks and hi res audio for the remastered album and concert, as well as an expanded 20-page book, plus 8"x10" photos and reproductions of vintage Megadeth memorabilia. The cover of the box uses a new, unique process of lenticular 3D which reinterprets the original cover, creating the illusion of Megadeth's Vic Rattlehead character jumping out of the art.

Released in 1986, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? was Megadeth's second album and the band's first Capitol/EMI release. The acclaimed album thrust Megadeth into the international spotlight, and it remains a powerful thrash metal staple.

In his liner notes for the new edition, Dave Mustaine reflects on writing the album's title track: "I had written other lyrics by now, but there was something different about 'Peace Sells' because it told my story about my faith; my beliefs; my distrust of government; my work ethic; my integrity. This was MY song."

"If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line"

"Amen!," continues Mustaine. "I was so tired of not shaving, not bathing, not eating, not having a home, a companion, NOTHING. Yeah, I'll be the first in line, but it had better work this time. Well, it was working, thank God, just fast enough for what I needed, but not nearly as fast as I would hope."

"Whether you heard this record for the first time in 1986, or you hear this record for the first time today or tomorrow, Peace Sells is a great heavy metal album," writes Lars Ulrich in his liner notes for the new edition. "Nothing more, nothing less. It has stood the test of time. And will continue to do so."

Dave Mustaine pioneered the hugely successful Megadeth after his departure from Metallica. Beginning with the band's 1985 debut album, Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!, and evolving through a shifting series of lineups, Megadeth has crafted a dynamic, intelligent style that combines the aggressiveness of thrash metal, the improvisational nature of jazz, and cynical, articulate, politically-charged lyrics into an innovative mix that has built a rabid worldwide following.

System Of A Down To Play US Shows In 2011? Ozzfest?

System Of A Down bassist Shavo posted on his official twitter that the band rehearsed for the first time in over 5 years. The band currently has a few festival shows lined up outside of the US. Many fans are wanting to know if the band will perform in the US this summer.

The answer is probably 'Yes'. I would think a suprise show at a club is in order before the festivals begin. It would be a good idea to knock of the rust so to speak. I really believe the band will play a few small shows in the US this year. As for a full blown US tour I would advise you to not to get your hopes up.

While the band was rumored for Mayhem Fest they will not play this year. Next year? A good possibility they will be asked to play. A come back tour would be nice but most artists usually do this after they have released an album of new material.

That leaves us with 3 options for SOAD in my opinion.

Option 1 is the Uproar tour. No one has really given any consideration to SoaD being on this tour. It would make sense and cents. The only problem is that Uproar hits smaller markets when compared to Mayhem Fest. SoaD is an immensely popular act who has millions of fans that would drive several hundreds of miles to see them. A full scale tour would see SoaD playing major cities first.

Option 2 would be to not tour the US at all until new material is ready near the summer of 2012. Fans would hate the wait but it makes sense to hold off until the band has a new album to promote.

Option 3 would be Ozzfest. The band had close ties with the Ozzfest camp. Ozzfest 98 & 99 helped break the band from unknown to MTV sensation in a few short years. Ozzfest was only 6 dates last year and I expect this year to be no different. That would a good tour for
SoaD to announce to the world that they are back. It would also give Ozzfest a good momentum boost which they haven't had since 2006... when SoaD last headlined the festival.

That is if there is an Ozzfest 2011. With BLS touring for the last time this year in May, I have to wonder if there will be an Ozzfest this year. One would have to think that BLS would be onboard if it was going to happen.

Disturbed Bassist Talks Touring With Korn, Mayhem Festival, And Auditionng For Disturbed

The San Antonio Metal Music Examiner recently conducted an interview with current Disturbed bassist John Moyer. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:

Q: Looking back, things couldn't have worked out much better for you now that you're in Disturbed. But do you have any regrets about The Union Underground not lasting longer?
A: Well, sure man, I put my heart and soul into that band just like everything I do. Before that, I was in a band called Soak, and we toured Texas and when I left, it was a hard decision. The Union Underground, I was hoping to put together a second record, but internally, it broke apart. It broke my heart. When it didn't happen, it was hard that the band ended. Our last show was Halloween 2003 and for months after that, I wasn't in a band. It was the longest I'd gone without being in a band. I had some offers, but honestly, I was trying to hold out for the Disturbed gig. I didn't audition with them until April 2004. They had auditioned lots of people, and I just kept figuring, "Man, that gig's gotta be mine (laughs)."

Q: Co-headlining with Korn gives the fans a powerful double package of sorts, along with Sevendust and In This Moment. But did that present a challenge in choosing a setlist as opposed to, say, when you headlined the Uproar Festival?
A: You're absolutely right. We both just do the same setlist just over an hour. If we were the main headliners, we'd do an hour and a half. But either way, you're getting the same show every night from both bands wherever you live. Honestly, we've had some success over the years. We've had singles off every record. There are songs off The Sickness that our fans are going to always want to hear and that we're going to play, songs off the Believe record, Ten Thousand Fists, Indestructible, and songs off this Asylum record.

Q: San Antonians are disappointed the Mayhem Fest's lone Texas stop is Dallas (Aug. 10), especially after you guys co-headlined the first one with Slipknot here in 2008. But how excited are you to be playing with Godsmack and especially a band from an earlier era in Megadeth?
A: Oh yeah, it's going to be awesome. I grew up playing Megadeth songs, and I know a couple guys in the band. The Godsmack guys, too, a great band. It's going to be exciting. It's a great lineup, and even with bands like Trivium, Machine Head and Kingdom of Sorrow on the second stage, the fans are going to get a great show.

Q: Your favorite Disturbed song to play, and why?
A: I love 'em all for different reasons. Down With the Sickness, even though you'd think it'd get old playing it and we've played it a hundred thousand times -- and will probably always play it -- the crowd reaction, as soon as the drum beat hits, it goes crazy. The flip side is playing new songs that are fresh. We're playing The Animal and Another Way to Die -- songs that are fun -- and challenging songs like Inside The Fire during the solo part where me and Dan are just ripping together.

Megadeth to play Peace Sells in it's entirety on 2011 tour?

In a recent interview with VH1 Radio, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine made the following statement:

"We've already had people talk to us about doing that and I told our manager that I'm totally interested in doing 'Peace Sells' for a 25th anniversary this year but I don't want to do it all year like we did with 'Rust in Peace'. I want to do it towards the end of the year. So we'll do the whole year doing our thing and then come around October, where the end of the year is, you've got a quarter of the year left, October, November and December, where we can do the 'Peace Sells' thing."

Megadeth is scheduled to play the Big 4 concert in Indio, California on April 23rd, 2011 followed by a headlining slot on the Mayhem Festival later in the summer. The band is currently recording new material for their next release which is rumored to be in the summer of 2011.

Update on Metallica Big 4 USA tour ***UPDATED***

According to a tweet from the host of That Metal Show and radio personality Eddie Trunk a member of one of The Big 4 bands was asked about a USA tour for 2011 and stated they knew nothing about it.

This information conflicts with information we previously reported about various band members confirming the tour at NAMM 2011 earlier in the month.

One thing we do know is that there have been occurences where band members were not told about tours until right before the official announcement due to all parties involved wanting to avoid information leaks. It is easy to explain a band member having no knowledge of an upcoming tour. What is not easy to explain are members from two of the bands saying the tour will happen when no official word has been given verifying or denying the tour.

There have been unconfirmed rumors of venues being placed on hold on certain dates for the tour (Los Angeles, Ohio, Detroit) for the tour. Those rumors could be true but I think they are unlikely. There was a new rumor about a two month long USA tour kicking off in the spring but I think that is unlikely too.

There are two rumors I believe are true. First is the rumor that the tour will happen in 2011. Metallica representatives have talked about plans for a massive production on a tour that will feature their best selling self titled album's twentieth anniversary celebrated. Not to mention all 4 of the bands repeatedly stating they want the tour to happen. Add in band members stating at NAMM that the tour will happen and this leaves us with too much evidence to think the tour won't happen.

The second rumor is that the tour announcement will be unveiled in April. This is perfect timing to unleash the official details of the tour. This will probably happen after tickets are onsale for Megadeth's strong rumored participation on the 2011 Mayhem Festival. Not to mention the band has 5 songs recorded for their next release which could be in mid 2011 if luck is on their side. It is also the perfect time for Anthrax to hype their new album with Joey Belladonna on vocals. I am not sure what Slayer will have new to offer their fans but I expect a greatest hits release or new DVD at the very least to coincide with the Big 4 tour.

Nothing is official until confirmed by band members or tour organizers in an official press release. With that said, common sense supported by evidence indicates that the Big 4 will tour the USA in 2011. The time is right and it would be a huge shock if the tour did not come to fruition this year.

***UPDATED***
By pure coincidence we received word from a source who works for one of the bands. We can confirm once again that the Big 4 will have concerts in the USA during the summer of 2011. We can also confirm that in fact there will not be a tour but a small amount of concerts, no more than a total of 6. Fans wanting to attend this tour may have to travel as it appears it will be a destination festival held at different locations in the USA.

More Bands Rumored For Mayhem Festival 2011

We are hearing rumors that Straight Line Stitch and All Shall Perish have been added to the line up for the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The line up will be officially announced one week from today, January 26th, 2011.

Main Stage:
Godsmack
Disturbed
Megadeth
Machine Head

Side Stages:
In Flames
Trivium
Kingdom of Sorrow
Unearth
Suicide Silence
All Shall Perish
Straight Line Stitch

Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax tour confirmed for USA in 2011!!!

Metallica and the rest of the Big 4 -Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax - will be touring the USA this summer. Reports are coming from NAMM that various band members were overheard making statements that the tour is happening. Rumors are surfacing of certain cities being candidates to receive the shows however we do not have the information to confirm the cities at this time.

Metallica has stated that the tour would coincide with the 20th anniversary of their self titled album aka ‘The Black Album’. The band has hinted at a huge production that could rival Pink Floyd’s The Wall tour. With that in mind, it only seems natural that the band would turn the tour into a full scale festival, reminiscent of Ozzfest.  If the tour is indeed a festival, other bands would likely be included on a smaller stage. We will take an in depth look at bands that would be a possibility to be added to the Big 4 tour. One thing of note is that since we do not have any dates we cannot be sure if the Big 4 will compete/conflict with dates by other tours/events such as the Wacken Festival. Since Megadeth is likely on Mayhem Festival it seems as if the tour will not take place until mid-August at the earliest. Here are bands we think would be likely added onto the Big 4 tour:

Mastodon
Machine Head
Down
Gojira
The Sword
Fear Factory
Volbeat
Overkill
Exodus
Testament

Perhaps 5 of those bands on the small stages would be enough. Perhaps the older legends like Testament, Overkill or Exodus could open the main stage? Are there any bands you think should be included on this tour?

In Depth Look At The Mayhem Festival 2011 Line Up

On January 26th, 2011 the line for this years Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival will be announced. Here is an indepth look at why we think certain bands will play on this years line up.

First of all, Roadrunner Records always has at least 2 bands on the festival. They usually have one band on the main stage and sometimes 2 bands on the main stage. In 2008 they had Slipknot, Machine Head and Airbourne on the festival. In 2009 they had Killswitch Engage and Trivium on the line up. In 2010 they had Korn and Rob Zombie on the line up.

Century Media records usually has at least one band on the line up. In 2008 Suicide Silence played. In 2009 God Forbid played on the festival. In 2010 In This Moment played on the festival. Other record companies have bands on each year, these were just 2 examples.

There have also been band members telling fans they are playing, whether it be at NAMM or from the stage. Here are the bands we believe are playing and evidence to support those claims:

Godsmack (Band member confirmed they are playing with Disturbed on Mayhem at NAMM 2011)
Disturbed (See Godsmack)
Megadeth (Roadrunner Records band and perfect fit as a concert draw for this slot)
Machine Head (Roadrunner Records band and a band member confirmed they are playing at NAMM 2011)
In Flames (E1 Records band. That record company usually has a band on the festival each year)
Kingdom of Sorrow (A band member was reported telling the crowd at a concert they would see them this summer on Mayhem)
Unearth (A band member hinted at a BIG tour this summer with alot of other bands)
Suicide Silence (A Century Media band. See Unearth, basically the same story)

The above bands are heavily rumored and will likely play. The bands we will discuss now are not a sure bet to play but a strong possibility:

Dimmu Borgir (Rumored and has no conflicting tour dates. Nuclear Blast Records usually has a band on the festival)
Skeletonwitch (Prosthetic Records usually has a band on the festival. This band also pulled out of the Wacken Festival in Germany and has no conflicting tour dates yet)
All That Remains (Another Prosthetic Records band. Supposedly a band member told a fan that they thought they would play this year but it was not finalized. No conflicting tour dates yet)

Be advised that there is a more current news article on bands participating on the 2011 Mayhem Festival which you can read by clicking HERE
