Poison frontman Bret Michaels talks about touring with Motley Crue

Poison frontman Brett Michaels was interviewed by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the bands upcoming tour with Motley Crue. Here are a few excerpts from that interview:

How did this summer tour come about?
Very simple. I was going out solo this year. I have a brand new tour and CD, Bret Michaels, ‘Get your Rock On.’ I was going out solo and we’re going to do a couple dates with Poison for our 25th anniversary. Well, I mentioned at a couple venues that I thought it would be great if Motley and Poison toured together for our 25th and 30th anniversaries. And I took a lot of flack [laughs] from certain members of Motley Crue, who vowed they were never going to do it. Well, here we are doing it.

I look at everything I do as a music fan. I think Motley and Poison touring together is going to be an amazing summer tour. The bottom line is, all that matter is that we have a good time and the fans get completely rocked.

So what has the relationship been like with the bands over the years?
Here’s the funniest thing. Vince has toured with Poison many times solo. We get along great. As far as Motley and Poison, there hasn’t been much of a connection. This is the first time we’ve ever done a tour together. I know over the years that Motley has a certain way they want to brand themselves or want themselves to be seen. With Poison, we just want to go out to play for fans and the people who show up. If there’s going to be a friendly competition as far as wanting to go out and put on a great show, absolutely. As far as saying anything bad about them, I just don’t.

As far as getting along, I’m not around them enough to know or really care how they feel. Even if they like Poison or don’t like me, I’m playing to fans who show up. It doesn’t have to be a lovefest between our two bands. I don’t want the fans to be separated. Motley fans are Poison fans are rock fans. Music is a universal language.

Look, I’ve toured with Def Leppard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice in Chains, you name it, Kiss, and we’ve always had great time. I think the bottom line, Motley probably made a couple bold statements in the press that were probably unnecessary, and I think the bottom line is, it all came around to us going and out and playing to a lot of fans, and I think it will be the tour of the summer. I know I’m going out there to have a good time after all I’ve been through.

Nikki Sixx discusses why Motley Crue is touring with Poison this summer

Nikki Sixx discussed why Motley Crue opted to tour with Poison this summer. In the interview on his Sixx Sense radio program, Sixx said, "One of the things Motley Crue said was that we would never tour with Poison because we were sort of punk-heavy metal-glam, we came out of the very, very early '80s and took what we did very... it was very important to us. And then bands came after us and we wanted to kind of separate from them. And we had never planned on touring with any of the bands from that era. There was no animosity — it was just that we put a very clear line. But when the New York Dolls signed on, it made it seem like it was the right time to do that this tour."

The interview can be listened to below:

Motley Crue, Poison And New York Dolls To Tour Together In 2011

We at Vulgar Display Of Blog can confirm that Motley Crue will tour the US and Canada with Poison and the New York Dolls. We believe this will be CrueFest 3 but we cannot verify that at this time. More info will be revealed soon.

Update: A album release sheet from Fontana North Distribution reveals that Motley Crue, Poison and New York Dolls will tour Canada in the summer of 2011. New York Dolls will be touring in support of their March 15 release 'Dancing Backwards In High Heels'.

New York Dolls guitarist Sylvain Sylvain spoke to www.JoeMatera.com and revealed his band is performing on a US tour with Motley Crue this summer. Here is an excerpt from that interview:

"Unfortunately, Frank won't be joining us for our upcoming tours basically because he wants to make some of his own records as he has had some good offers and so wants to pursue those. And we're about to go on the road for 40 nights with Motley Crue this coming June-July in the States, and that's a lot of work and so he chose not to be there. But we made some calls and now we finally have got Earl Slick playing guitar. So Earl's going to be joining us for the upcoming tour. He's the newest member of the New York Dolls, if I can put that right now."

New York Dolls On CrueFest 2011?

This leads us at VDOB to believe that a CrueFest 2011 announcement is not far away. I think it is safe to say that the following bands will likely be on the festival:

Motley Crue
Sixx: A. M.
New York Dolls

Other possible bands could include Poison, Slash, Rob Zombie or Alice Cooper.

Rocklahoma 2011 lack of rumors

While we can only confirm Drowning Pool for Rocklahoma 2011 so far, we have learned new information about the festival. The 2010 festival featured a line up consisting of more modern acts, such as Godsmack, Lacuna Coil, Buchcherry, Three Days Grace, Saving Able etc. We have learned that the 2011 line up will feature more retro hard rock acts. While we have only been able to confirm one band, here are a list of bands we think could be possibilites to be on Rocklahoma 2011:

ZZ Top (They were there last year and went over very well)
Judas Priest (last US tour so why not?)
Scorpions (See Judas Priest)
Warrant (New album coming out soon)
Steel Panther (See Warrant)
Poison (30th anniversary tour)
Rob Zombie (A suprise act that would go over well in my opinion)
Alice Cooper (No reason he shouldn't be a headliner)
Whitesnake (See Warrant)

We have not heard any of those bands as being rumored. Hell, we haven't heard of one rumored band to be honest with you. The bands mentioned above are possibilites that make sense.
